activities

Don't miss our activities:

7~8.2018

Beginning

We took pictures of things that gave us an impression in our daily life and that made us wonder "Why?" during the summer vacation.

9.3.2018

first class

In the first PBL lesson, we had a brainstorm session to decide our project theme. At this stage, we started discussing the problems related to "gaps" in our society.

9.10~27.2018

deciding our theme

We decided our project theme.

Based on the previous discussion that focused on "gaps" in our society, we chose "gender gap" among the problems in wealth, race, and nationality. As a high school student, this problem is relevant because we often come across those who are biased in terms of gender. More specifically, housework sharing is such a common problem in Japan that we though it is worth working on. At this point, we planned to get our parents involved in our project.

10.15~26.2018

preparation for the interim presentation

We prepared for the presentation on October 29. The preparation enabled us to deepen our thoughts on the issues because it required us to organise and reconstruct our ideas for an effective presentation.

10.20.2018

Conducting a survey for fathers

We gave a questionnaire to our school’s parents.

They answered questions about the present housework sharing situations. They were also asked what factor could motive them to do more housework. We really appreciate the cooperation of 99 fathers.

10.27.2018

Discussion

We had a discussion with a teacher who is leading Problem Based Learning in Australia. His insightful comments helped us develop our ideas, which led to finding effective solutions against the problems.

10.29.2018

the interim presentation

The interim presentation was held in our class. We presented some backgrounds on the theme and the proposals that we were carrying out. Comments from our classmates were helpful to expand our project further.

Our presentation slides are available here. Please check this out!

10.29.2018

Preparation for interviewing "GEnDER="

When we were looking for current activities or organisations that are active to solve gender inequality, we knew about an NPO, "gender=". To have an interview with them, we started some preparation. We also started writing items included in a questionnaire targeting mothers in our school in order to reveal how housework is regularly done in each household.

Regarding "gender=", it is an NPO launched by women who work full-time. Their goal is to eliminate gender inequality in daily household chores. More detailed information is available from the link below.

11.07.2018

Conducting a SURVEY FOR MOTHERS

We conducted a questionnaire targeting mothers in our school. They answered questions on Google Form . To mothers, we asked more detailed questions about the problems that they are facing and how they think they can solve them. We really appreciate the participation of 194 mothers in our survey.

11.10.2018

interview with GEnDER=

We interviewed members of an NPO, "gender=". We were taught the importance of having knowledge, determination, and negotiation to solve the problems of housework sharing.

We also learned how to use "Happy-share-board" created by them. In addition, we learned a lot from the stories of launching "gender=" and the lectures on current situations of housework sharing. We would like to express deep appreciation for what they have taught us.

11.08~18.2018

preparation for the final presentation

Preparing for the final presentation, we summarised data that we collected through a series of surveys and analysed it to draw a conclusion. We made a lot of effort to make our presentation clear, consistent, and persuasive.

11.19.2018

The final presentation tournament

We had the final presentation on this day. If we win the final presentation tournament, we can advance to the championship. We think it went pretty well, so we are looking forward to hearing a good result.

11.20.2018

the RESULT OF the final PRESENTATION

It's amazing!!! We were chosen as one of the best presenters in the championship. As representatives of our school, we were given an opportunity to go to Australia. We will stay there for two weeks to spread our thoughts to Australian high school students.

Now we are working on the next presentations in Australia.

12.10~18.2018

PREPARING FOR an English presentation CONTEST

Looking for the opportunity to present our study findings, we applied for an English presentation contest. Now we are writing a summary of our study.

We like writing because it always helps us organise our thoughts.

12.19.2018

the RESULT OF the CONTEST 1

We passed the screening of the documents. We were very pleased because we have heard that only 20 out of 110 groups passed it. We worked really hard on that, so it was very rewarding! We also cannot thank enough to the teachers who helped us revise the summary. In the contest, we will give a 10-15 minute presentation, including a Q&A session. We will practice hard to win the contest.

1.26.2019

SPECIAL LECTURE

We held a special lecture, inviting our classmates’ parents and gender= , an NPO working on gender inequality issues in Japanese families.

We were glad that many parents participated in it.

After presenting current issues in gender inequality, we got them to use Talk Over Sheet.

We knew that many of them found our lecture meaningful, reading their comments.

1.27.2019

The result of the CONTEST 2

We gave a presentation in the contest.

The result was ...

We won the special prize!!!

We were so excited because the wining team was invited to another presentation contest held in Singapore.

We heard that our presentation was highly evaluated in that our project contributed to solving one of the prevalent social problems. Using technology, including this website, was also seen as an effective solution.

We will brush up on our English presentation skills to give good presentations in Australia as well as Singapore!

You can find out more about the contest from the link below.

STUDYING IN AUSTRALIA

We took a trip to Australia! At the school we visited, we had a lot of dissuasions on gender issues with Australian students. We learned so many things from them. The precious experiences we had had there motivated us to make much more better presentations for the next contest held in Singapore.
